Teeth stain during our lifetime due to consumption of a variety of foods and drinks (Coke, spicy food, coffee). New technology of teeth whitening has enabled dentists to whiten teeth without any change or damage to the tooth structure.
Almost all the whitening methods are similar in concept but some are much more effective because of the way the whitening material is delivered to the teeth. The other factor in effectiveness of the method is the concentration of material, which is the reason why over the counter whitening systems usually don t give patients the result they are hoping for.
The two main methods of professional whitening are tray whitening and in office whitening. Tray whitening is when a custom tray is made for the patient after an impression is taken, then a supply of whitening gel is given to the patient and he/she will wear the tray for a few hours a day (techniques differ) for a period of time until an acceptable result is achieved. Sensitivity of the teeth is a normal complication of this method of whitening and is almost always transitional.
In office whitening on the other hand is the most effective method of whitening. There are a few different ways that are available for example, Britesmile, Zoom, Laser whitening….But in all these methods the process is similar and you can have your teeth whitened in one session with great results. Your dentist can give you more detailed information and tell you which method is more suitable in your case and which one is indicated for your teeth.
Zoom! Teeth Whitening
When you meet someone, your smile is the first thing they see. We have all seen people who smile and laugh, yet cover their mouth because they are not happy with the way their smile looks. A vibrant white smile not only helps make a positive impression, but it makes you feel better about yourself and your appearance. There are a number of things that cause stained teeth, and it is difficult if not impossible to avoid them all. Aside from the aging process, coffee, tea, soda, red wine, smoking, and certain foods are a few of the common culprits of teeth stains. This is why many people choose to whiten their teeth. With revolutionary Zoom! Whitening, you can turn back the clock and transform your smile. For Best Results and Precautions Against Sensitivity, We Highly Recommend the Zoom session to be split up in two appointments with a professional cleaning prior to the first appointment containing potassium nitrate and fluoride. (We recommend Prevident 5000; which we sell at the office). At the first appointment we will provide a limited exam and take anterior x-rays to determine weather or not the patient is a candidate for Zoom. We will also take impressions for your customized take home trays for Zoom touch up. Lastly, we will protect your teeth sensitivity by administering a fluoride pre-treatment.The second appointment will be the actual Zoom session. If your teeth are prone to sensitivity issues, we also recommend that the patient takes Ibuprofen one hour prior to the appointment, unless recommended against it by their primary care physician.

How does it work?
Unlike other whitening systems, Zoom! Whitening is a simple and short procedure performed by your dentist. Not only is it safe and comfortable, but the results are immediate and long-lasting. One 45-60 minute session of Zoom! Whitening is all it takes to brighten your smile up to eight shades.
- Your lips and gums are covered so that only your teeth are exposed.
- Your dentist applies the Zoom! whitening gel and uses the specially designed Zoom! light on your teeth. Together, the light and gel gently break up and remove any stains and discoloration.
- This is repeated 3-4 times in 15 minute increments.
After the procedure, your dentist may provide you with touch-up trays to maintain your new smile. Then, you are finished and can enjoy a brighter and whiter smile!
